The Paediatric team at UHB are keen to recruit an individual who is hard working, organised and passionate about providing an excellent service to fulfil our Ward Services Coordinator role.

This person will join a team of highly skilled, friendly staff to ensure essential supplies are ordered and available within the clinical area. This will include restocking medical supplies, food and documentation, maintaining equipment and organising the safe storage of pharmaceutical products.

This post is part time, 24 hours per week over 3 days, Monday-Friday. There is no option for weekend or Night duty. The position will be on the Children’s ward at Good Hope Hospital.

The post holder will need to be physically active throughout their shift and be able to move and handle equipment and stock safely.

When working in the clinical environment you will need to communicate effectively with colleagues, visitors, maintain confidentiality, use IT systems and adhere to trust policies and procedures.

The successful candidate will work collaboratively with our current Ward Service Coordinators at Heartlands.

You will be required to attend a face-to-face interview for this post, which will take place at Good Hope Hospital.

Main Duties, Tasks & Skills Required

You will work in a clinical environment where children and families are cared for during a time of illness. Although you will not be delivering direct patient care you will need to conduct yourself professionally at all times and demonstrate compassion to others.

You will be a valued team member, ensuring provisions of essential stock, preparation of equipment and arranging servicing of equipment.

You will ensure the clinical area is safe and free from hazards.

You will be responsible for maintaining the storage and organisation of stock, reviewing stock levels and expiry dates, ordering additional supplies using an IT ordering system and supporting the clinical staff to ensure the environment and equipment is clean and working appropriately.

You will complete designated competency-based training session in medicines management to ensure stocks of pharmaceuticals are maintained at agreed levels and are kept in secure and appropriate storage areas in accordance with Trust policy.

You must adhere to UHB infection control and Health & Safety guidelines to ensure that safety is priority.

You must demonstrate respect to colleagues, patients, families and visitors and promote inclusivity and equality at UHB.

You will need to communicate effectively with Paediatric colleagues, external departmental teams and visitors recognising barriers to communication and implementing strategies to overcome these.

You are required to adhere to UHB policies, procedures and trust values.

Person Specification

Qualifications

  • Evidence of Level 2 on both Maths & English qualifications (CSE Grade 1/GCSE Grades 4-9 or A* -C / Level 2 Functional Skills / O Level grade A-C / Level 2 National Certificate / Level 2 National Diploma / Level 2 ESOL)
  • Evidence of completion of Level 3 Qualification or above in Health / Social Care or Hospitality & Catering (BTEC/ CACHE Level 3 Award / Level 3 Certificate or Diploma) or 2 A levels or equivalent experience of working in the NHS in a patient/public facing role in health / care or hospitality & catering
  • Evidence of completion of training associated with employment in a role associated with health / care / hospitality or catering i.e. Customers service/ Food Hygiene / Care Certificate/ Health & Safety i.e. COSHH
  • Evidence of completion of “in house” training associated with employment, via on-line training platforms, Moodle, in house training etc.

Experience

  • Considerable experience of working in a health/ care role or hospitality/ catering role which is customer facing in an NHS or health / care provider role as part of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Experience of undertaking audit of stock and replenishment of supplies
  • Can demonstrate understanding of the roles which make up the team of health and care staff within a hospital setting
  • Can demonstrate understanding of Health & Safety
  • Can demonstrate understanding of Infection prevention control practice
  • Can demonstrate understanding of Food hygiene practice /standards
  • Can demonstrate understanding of Moving and handling
  • Can demonstrate understanding of Customer service /care skills
  • Can demonstrate awareness and understanding of how they may be exposed to distressing situations associated with hospital patient care
  • Can demonstrate understanding of how this role contributes to patient health and wellbeing
  • Can demonstrate understanding of Equality, diversity and inclusion and how this relates to this role
  • Can demonstrate an understanding of Safeguarding and how this relates to the role
  • Can demonstrate how data protection and confidentiality relate to the role
  • Understands and supports ward / service routine and structures.
  • Participates in training associated with the role.
  • Supports / trains and educates new staff on the role / duties associated with the role.
