About The Role
We are recruiting on behalf of our client, a well-established Children’s Residential Home in Ossett, to join their supportive care team as a dedicated and compassionate Residential Support Worker.
This role is ideal for individuals passionate about making a positive impact in the lives of children and young people. Candidates with experience in Children’s Residential Care, SEN support, education support, youth work, or other child-focused environments supporting children with additional and complex needs are welcomed.
You will be supporting children and young people who may present with a range of needs including:
- Special Educational Needs (SEN)
- Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
- ADHD
- SEMH (Social, Emotional & Mental Health Needs)
- Emotional & Behavioural Difficulties (EBD)
- Trauma-related behaviours
- Learning disabilities and additional support needs
- Challenging behaviour and emotional dysregulation
Key Responsibilities
- Provide high‑quality, child‑centred care and support within a residential environment.
- Build positive, professional relationships with children and young people.
- Support emotional wellbeing, personal development, confidence, and independence.
- Assist children with daily routines, education attendance, appointments, activities, and life skills development.
- Support young people presenting with challenging behaviour, using positive behaviour support approaches and de‑escalation techniques.
- Promote a safe, structured, and nurturing home environment.
- Accurately complete daily records, reports, and safeguarding documentation.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues, education professionals, social workers, healthcare teams, and families where appropriate.
- Follow safeguarding procedures, care plans, and risk management processes.
- Participate in shift work, including evenings, weekends, and sleep‑ins.
Candidate Requirements
Essential
- Experience working with children and young people.
- Experience supporting individuals with SEN, additional needs, behavioural challenges, or emotional support needs.
- Ability to manage and respond professionally to challenging behaviours.
- Strong understanding of safeguarding and child protection practices.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Flexible approach to working shifts, weekends, and sleep‑ins.
- Full UK Driving Licence – Essential.
Desirable
- Previous experience within a Children’s Residential Home.
- Experience as a SEN Teaching Assistant (SEN TA), Behaviour Support Worker, Youth Worker, Learning Support Assistant, or similar role.
- Level 3 qualification in Residential Childcare, Health & Social Care, or equivalent.
- Understanding of trauma‑informed care and therapeutic approaches.
- Experience supporting children with ASD, ADHD, SEMH, or EBD.
