Scartho Gateway Academy opened in September 2025. Currently, there are 110 children on roll; there will be approximately 140 in September 2026 and we will eventually provide for up to 210 pupils, from Reception to Year 6. The academy also includes a Resource Specialist Provision (RSP), catering for up to 12 children from across North East Lincolnshire who have identified Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.

The RSP currently has a lead teacher and two teaching assistants and caters for 6 children. The number of children will grow to 9 from September 2026 and therefore, we are seeking to increase our team.

Responsibilities

As a teaching assistant in the RSP, you will work closely with the RSP teacher, alongside the SENDCO, and collaborate with staff across the academy to ensure a broad, balanced and specialist curriculum is provided for our children accessing the RSP. You will support the teacher and work with colleagues to create a nurturing and empathic approach, prioritising child‑centred relational approaches. Your role will involve supporting the delivery of a culture where all students with additional and special educational needs and disabilities can access the curriculum and learn effectively.

  • Experienced teaching assistant with a strong desire to help children who have often had negative experiences of education develop their skills and confidence.
  • Knowledge of and practical understanding of the SEND Code of Practice.
  • Ability to work creatively and adaptively with children across key stages.
  • Experience working with children with additional needs, including SEMH, is vital.
  • Commitment to ensuring new academies are fully inclusive and that RSPs are integrated within the academy.
  • Ability to champion trauma awareness and relational learning principles, building strong, trusting relationships with children.
  • Good knowledge in developing child‑centred relational learning approaches.

We will provide a full package of ongoing CPD and regular supervision as part of the whole school relational approach.

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. All successful applicants are required to apply for an enhanced DBS disclosure. Additional checks including social media will be carried out in line with Keeping Children Safe in Education legislation.
