Overview
SRG are delighted to be working with an innovative diagnostics organisation based in Scotland’s Central belt as they look for a microfluidics engineer to support their product development function.
The Role
As a Microfluidics Engineer you will be responsible for the design and development of microfluidic architectures using CAD. You will then utilise computational fluid dynamics simulations to optimise fluid flow. Working alongside a scientific team you will automate assay development workflow, designing prototypes for testing. You will adapt designs for high-volume injection moulding, which will include managing draft angles, wall thickness and tool inserts.
In summary this role will focus on translating early-stage prototype concepts into scalable, manufacturable products using advanced polymer processing and microfabrication techniques. Working within a multidisciplinary R&D environment, the successful candidate will contribute to the design, development and validation of high-performance disposable cartridges and consumables for diagnostic applications.
The Right Person
- Deep, demonstrable understanding of injection moulding, including tool cooling and the impact of moulding parameters
- Experience with metrology tools such as SEM
- Knowledge of surface modification techniques
- Expert-level knowledge in microfluidic flow systems
- Demonstrable proficiency with CAD, or similar software
- Relevant qualification (Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, etc.)
- Prior experience in the IVD or medical device industry, ideally with experience working on plastic consumables
