Job overview

The Hartsholme Centre PICU is a 10-bed, male-only unit based on one of our sites in central Lincoln, with state-of-the‑art design and technology being incorporated into the new facility.

We are seeking only the best Staff Nurse, those who really want to “make a difference”, with the Trust values at the core of patient care.

You will need to be self‑motivated, enthusiastic and empathetic to the needs of patients during the acute stage of a mental health episode. You will be required to have excellent communication skills, be resourceful, and keen to demonstrate the distinctive contribution and added value the Staff Nurse can offer the multi‑disciplinary team.

This post attracts an additional £3,000 Environment Allowance per annum.

Main duties of the job

  • To work within the policies, protocols and clinical procedures of Lincolnshire Partnership NHS Trust and to promote competent working practice within an integrated multi‑disciplinary team.
  • To liaise with the nurses and carry out assigned duties as a member of the multi‑disciplinary mental health team.
  • To be prepared to work on own initiative as necessary and report to the nurses.
  • Promote equality for all patients and understand their health needs.
  • Demonstrate an awareness of service user and carer perspectives on the provision of treatment and continuing care.
  • Participate regularly in clinical supervision sessions.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • Liaise with representatives from associated voluntary and statutory organisations and facilitate good communication processes.
  • Attend in-service training and other study/refresher days to meet individual, statutory and service needs.
  • Participate in performance reviews.
  • To work with service users to promote independence, maximising daily living skills.
  • Assist in maintaining general and specific patient observations under the supervision of registered nursing staff.
  • Facilitate and participate in recreational and physical activities in the provision of health and social care to service users.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the responsibilities in relation to patients’ property and valuables, respecting cultural values.
  • Always act in a manner as to promote and safeguard the interests and well‑being of patients.

Person specification

Qualifications

  • RMN or RNLD 1st Level Registration (NMC) or degree or equivalent
  • Evidence of specialised continued professional training in clinical practice.

Experience

  • Demonstrating supportive and sensitive communication to patients, carers and staff, whilst demonstrating an understanding of the nature and effects of some information and barriers to effective communication whilst being considerate of client confidentiality
  • Relevant experience of working with mental health needs
  • Sound knowledge of the national agenda for mental health
  • Sound knowledge of clinical/risk assessment and understanding of Information Governance principles.
  • Previous experience working as a registered mental health nurse with people with mental health problems.
  • Personal experience in the delivery of physical care to others
