Specialist Therapist (Occupational Therapist / Physiotherapist)

As a Specialist Therapist the post holder will be responsible for providing specialist assessments and expert equipment advice for Devon residents who visit or contact the Independent Living Centre in order to:

  • assess the person’s functional needs including people with chronic and complex needs.
  • enable people with complex needs to maximise their physical, emotional, cognitive, social function.
  • anticipate and prevent the effects of health conditions through education and therapeutic intervention in a functional context.
  • provide practical advice and support for families and carers of people with disabilities.
  • identify solutions and appropriate equipment for activities of daily living.

For more detail about the main duties of this role, please see the job description section below. As a key member of the Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, you will be joining an exceptional team working together to help our patients stay healthy, when they need it most.

Job responsibilities

  • The post-holder will proactively carry out research into equipment and participate in the maintenance of up‑to‑date information.
  • The post-holder will ensure that the ILC maintains and develops access to specialist equipment for assessment and demonstration by liaising with equipment manufacturers and retailers.
  • The post-holder will be instrumental in making clinical judgments regarding the equipment available for access through statutory bodies.
  • The post holder will use equipment knowledge and research to advise and support colleagues in NHS and DCC to facilitate provision of timely and cost‑effective specialist equipment.
  • The post holder will be involved with developing the service in response to county equipment policy and identified equipment prescriber training needs and will be instrumental in planning, coordinating and presenting equipment updates and training to multidisciplinary employees from Adult Health and Social Care.
  • The post holder will represent the ILC team at peer group meetings and management meetings as required, as well as representing the ILC at events for clients, formal and informal carers, and the general public throughout Devon.
  • The post holder will take a lead on behalf of the ILC for specific projects.

Working pattern: Monday – Friday, 37.5 hours
