Responsibilities

Clinical Duties (Adult Services)

  • Undertake routine adult audiological assessments including pure‑tone audiometry, tympanometry, and acoustic reflexes.
  • Fit, programme, and verify digital hearing aids using Real Ear Measurements (REM) in line with BSA/BAA guidance.
  • Provide rehabilitation, counselling, and communication strategies to support hearing‑impaired adults.
  • Manage follow‑up appointments, repairs, troubleshooting, and ongoing device optimisation.
  • Maintain accurate clinical records in accordance with Trust and national standards.

Diagnostic Support for ENT

  • Provide audiometric assessments to support ENT clinics, contributing to differential diagnosis.
  • Communicate results clearly to ENT clinicians and escalat(e) urgent findings appropriately.
  • Ensure timely and accurate reporting of diagnostic outcomes.

Paediatric Audiology Support

  • Assist in the assessment of pre‑school and school‑aged children under supervision.
  • Conduct age‑appropriate tests such as VRA, play audiometry, and tympanometry, under supervision.
  • Support early identification and management pathways for childhood hearing loss.

Service Delivery & Professional Practice

  • Manage own clinical caseload, prioritising effectively and working independently within protocols.
  • Participate in clinical audit, service improvement, and quality assurance activities.
  • Maintain professional development in line with HCPC/AHCS requirements.
  • Adhere to BSA, BAA, and Trust clinical guidelines.

Person Specification

  • Active registration with the AHCS.
  • BSc (Hons) Degree in Audiology or equivalent.
  • Excellent communication skills with both adults and children.
  • Excellent presentational, communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Acts as a role model and can lead by example to ensure the Trust’s values and behaviours are reinforced throughout their area of practice.
  • Abilities to supervise non‑registered and less experienced staff to ensure effective service and care delivery.
  • Previous placement or employment within an NHS Audiology setting.
  • Demonstrates detailed clinical knowledge of the Adult Direct access system.
  • Knowledge of developed diagnostic testing.
  • Good general health to meet the demands of the post.
  • Ability to access transport to travel to multiple locations within a working day covering a rural area.
  • Reliable, adaptable and dependable.
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development through maintenance of professional portfolio and registration revalidation.
  • Able to work well within a team.
  • Active registration with the HCPC.
  • Tinnitus Counselling Course Certificate.
  • Good working knowledge of IT systems including AuditBase or equivalent.
  • Exemplary professional approach and able to act as a Trust representative.
  • Demonstrates ability to use clinical reasoning skills and techniques to assess, diagnose, plan and offer a range of treatment options; deliver, evaluate, and amend the treatment plan in line with post applied for.
  • Creative and flexible.
