Consultant – Obs & Gynae – Recurrent Miscarriage

Main duties of the job

We are looking for an individual to fill a new Obstetric & Gynaecology post at Leeds General Infirmary and St James’s University Hospital. The post includes a 1:10 obstetric on call commitment, which may be adjusted as the service expands. The Leeds maternity services offer regional obstetric care, specialist fetal medicine, maternal medicine and placental services. The gynaecology service is predominantly based at St James University Hospital (Chancellor Wing), with elective work also conducted at Wharfdale Hospital.

Qualifications and experience

• Must hold MRCOG (or equivalent) and be on the Specialist Register or within six months of CCT at the time of interview, if currently in a UK training programme.
• All other doctors must be on the Specialist Register.
• Established skills in Obstetrics & Gynaecology with experience managing recurrent miscarriage.
• Completed SITMs/ATSMs relevant to this specialist interest, with demonstrable experience.
• Excellent communication and team working skills; strong commitment to teaching and service development.

Primary responsibilities

• Deliver Obstetrics and Gynaecology care to patients at Leeds Teaching Hospital Trust, including:
  • Antenatal out‑patient clinics
  • Elective Caesarean section lists
  • Ambulatory obstetric and gynaecology areas, including post‑natal ward review
  • Care of in‑patients on an obstetric hot week rota (1 in 13)
  • Contribute to the obstetric on‑call rota
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings, incident reviews, audit and teaching sessions
• Provide 1.5 PAs clinical care reflecting the interests of the successful candidate, including mentoring and support from within the department.
• Potential interests may include recurrent miscarriage services, high‑risk obstetrics, one‑stop acute care for reduced fetal movements, or other areas agreed with the department.
• Deliver 10‑minute presentation on how to tackle inequity and variation in recurrent miscarriage pathways at Leeds (for shortlisted candidates).
