Research Nurse / Clinical Trials Practitioner

Cancer Clinical Trials Team

Band 6

12-month fixed term contract

The post holder will coordinate and manage a portfolio of phase II and III clinical trials in oncology malignancies, including in-house, national and international studies.

Responsibilities include patient education, coordinating patient care on trials, collecting and preparing biological samples, recording trial data, monitoring adverse events, and ensuring compliance with ICH GCP.

Main duties of the job

  • Coordinate and conduct in-house, commercial and non-commercial national and international phase I, II and III clinical trials.
  • Create and maintain protocol files and patient information sheets/consent forms in appropriate clinics and departments.
  • Document trial data in accordance with ICH GCP guidelines.
  • Critically appraise research protocols.
  • Ensure completion of case report forms within GCP guidelines and time limits.

Person specification

Knowledge and Qualifications

  • Basic computer literacy.
  • Up-to-date GCP training.
  • Post registration oncology qualification or equivalent.
  • Registration on the Academy for Healthcare Science Clinical Research Practitioner Accredited Register.
  • Competence in research-oriented PC software (Access/Excel).

Experience

  • Clinical trial experience.
  • Experience delivering evidence-based practice.
  • Significant experience working in cancer.
  • Experience with oncology/haematology patients.
  • Experience delivering formal and informal teaching of patients and staff.
  • Experience explaining complex concepts to patients.
  • Experience acting as a patient advocate.
  • Experience as a preceptor/facilitator.
  • Experience of phlebotomy and cannulation.

Skills and Abilities

  • Demonstrated professional development.
  • Knowledge of ICH GCP guidelines.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure.
  • Ability to take charge and delegate duties.
