Position
Staff Nurse (Band 6) – Smithers Ward (Surrey site). Fixed term, 10 months, full-time.
Salary: £45,953 to £54,254 per annum.
Location
Royal Marsden Sutton, SM2 5PT, United Kingdom.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate and supervise a shift, communicating effectively with a multidisciplinary team to deliver high‑quality, evidence‑led care.
- Exercise clinical judgement and decision‑making regarding patient needs, long‑term goals and care plans.
- Participate in the day‑to‑day organisation and running of clinical trials, including recruitment, education and monitoring of patients and liaison with trial sponsors.
- Counter‑check patients’ vital signs, blood results, body surface area, chemotherapy prescriptions and consent before administering treatment.
- Educate patients on treatment indications, side effects, and ensure necessary medication and follow‑up appointments are obtained.
- Plan, document, deliver and evaluate care plans from admission through discharge or transfer, discussing with patients, families and multidisciplinary teams; alert charge nurses to changes.
Person Specification
Essential Requirements
- NMC Registration
- Evidence of ongoing professional development
- RMH Certificate in Intravenous Drug Administration (or obtain within three months of appointment)
- Experience in intravenous drug administration
- Post‑registration nursing experience in oncology or speciality sufficient for competence in required skills
Desirable Requirements
- Qualification in oncology or speciality (diploma/degree) or equivalent
- Recognised teaching qualification
- Experience in chemotherapy administration
- Experience in clinical management
- Evidence of teaching experience
- Knowledge and understanding of clinical trials management
- Experience in oncology or area of specialty
- Venepuncture and/or cannulation skills
- Computer literacy (e.g., Microsoft Word and Outlook)
