Staff Nurse – Cardiac Intensive Care Unit

Job Summary

University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust invites applications for a Staff Nurse to join our Cardiac Intensive Care Unit. This fast‑paced environment offers advanced clinical training and career development opportunities.

Responsibilities

• Provide high standard individualised patient care within the Cardiac ICU setting.
• Work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to support patient safety and clinical excellence.
• Assist in the planning, execution and documentation of patient care, following Trust policies and procedures.
• Demonstrate aptitude to work in high‑pressure situations with maturity and professional judgement.
• Flexible to work a full range of shifts across a 7‑day rota, including weekends and evenings.

Essential Qualifications and Experience

• Qualified Nurse (Degree/Diploma).
• Registered on the appropriate part of the nursing register.
• Experience in Critical Care or acute setting, with knowledge of current acute health service issues.
• Understanding of personal accountability and evidence‑based practice.
• Ability to teach and support learners in practice as a practice supervisor.
• Experience in infection control management.
• Evidence of ongoing personal development and initiative.

Desirable Qualifications

• Recent study or further education in a relevant specialty.
• Previous experience or qualification in a related specialty.
• Teaching experience.

Working Hours & Salary

Band 5 – Salary depends on experience, pro rata per annum. Contract: Permanent. Working pattern: Full‑time or Part‑time. Shift pattern: 7‑day rota.
