The R2 Customs First Line Manager leads a customs team and is responsible for overseeing and coordinating the end‑to‑end customs processes for goods moving from the EU into the UK. The role involves managing a team of customs administrators and acting as the key link between vendors, Country Freight forwarders, and EU partners to ensure accurate and timely export documentation, smooth customs clearance, and compliance with all regulatory requirements. This role combines people leadership, operational oversight, and customs compliance expertise to deliver efficient cross‑border movements.
A typical day may involve
- Ensure all export and import documentation is prepared in accordance with EU and UK customs requirements
- Maintain up to date knowledge of UK customs processes and EU export regulations
- Collaborate with internal teams such as Planning, NDNS, EU control towers, Brokers and Freight forwarders to ensure accuracy and SLAs are met
- Develop and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Work instructions
- Manage two direct reports – customs administrators
This role would suit people who
- Have previous transport planning experience
- Have previous customer service experience
- Have previous experience managing people
- Have good IT skills such as Excel
- Have experience with customs and brokers
