Job Description:

RSK Geosciences team are currently recruiting for Geotechnical Engineers/Engineering Geologists to join our well‑established, experienced geotechnical consultancy team in our Hemel Hempstead office. We are looking for candidates who have a minimum of two to three years of relevant experience in the planning and supervision of ground investigations.

The geotechnical consultancy team provides consultancy and design services to the rest of the RSK Group, as well as servicing a range of external clients. Our current workload includes projects ranging from major infrastructure for downstream oil and gas clients to housing developments for UK national house builders.

The Geosciences team within RSK Group is one of the UK’s largest geotechnical and contaminated‑land consultancies with ambitious plans for growth.

Responsibilities

  • Undertake geotechnical desk studies, geo‑hazard and geospatial site appraisals.
  • Oversee ground investigations and subcontractors.
  • Supervise earthworks.
  • Log soil and rock to current geotechnical standards and schedule laboratory work.
  • Collate data and write factual and interpretative geotechnical and geo‑environmental reports.
  • Prepare earthworks documentation in accordance with DMRB HD 22/08 ‘Managing Geotechnical Risk’.
  • Engage in geotechnical analysis and design of slopes, earthworks, foundations, basements, retaining structures and ground‑movement assessments.
  • Participate in geo‑environmental site appraisal.
  • Occasionally travel to other offices and sites within the UK and for up to one to two months overseas.

This role is an excellent opportunity to work on key public and private sector projects, providing broad consultancy experience early in your career. It will involve a mix of site‑based supervision of geotechnical investigations and earth‑works supervision, with an office‑based component for analysis and reporting. Office time may be remote or home‑based, with hybrid arrangements of three days in‑office and two days remote as required by project or site work.

Person Specification

  • A degree in engineering geology, geology, civil engineering or a related discipline.
  • A second degree in geotechnical engineering is advantageous.
  • Desire to obtain Chartered status with a relevant institution (e.g., CGeol/CEng) and membership of the Geological Society of London, or working towards corporate membership of another appropriate professional institution (e.g., ICE).
  • Proven post‑graduate professional experience.
  • Good understanding of geology, site investigation works and ground engineering.
  • Strong report‑writing skills.
  • Computer literate, with a good level of MS‑Word and Excel.
  • Experience in CAD, ArcGIS / QGIS and geotechnical software packages is preferable.
  • Experience in GI specification and contract documentation is preferable.
