Job Summary

  • Work as part of the multidisciplinary team delivering care to patients with support and supervision provided by a registered health professional.
  • Undertake personal care activities and tasks as delegated by a registered healthcare professional, in accordance with the HEIW All Wales Guidelines for Delegation.
  • Ensure the registered healthcare professional is regularly updated on the patient’s condition and improvement/deterioration.
  • Maintain high standards of cleanliness in the healthcare setting and appropriate storage of stock items.
  • Deliver role in accordance with Health Board/Trust Values and the Code of Conduct for HCSWs in Wales.

Main Duties

  • Undertake care as directed by the registered healthcare professional, following agreed care plans and providing information to enable monitoring and amendment of care plans.
  • Obtain informed consent prior to providing care, understanding the actions required if care is declined.
  • Demonstrate care and compassion to patients, carers and relatives to help ensure high‑quality person‑centred care is delivered at all times.
  • Provide personal care to patients/clients, including use of shower/bath, washing facilities, dressing, oral hygiene support and enabling patients to meet their hygiene needs; facilitate toilet use and disposal of bodily waste while ensuring privacy, dignity and security—employing hoists, wheelchairs or other mobility aids as required.
  • Support people to eat and drink by selecting appropriate food and drinks, enabling preparation and assistance where appropriate.
  • Do everything possible to ensure comfort, dignity and safety of patients, clients, family and friends, and relate with kindness and empathy to all concerned.

Essential Qualifications

  • Level 2 in care or the ability to undertake induction and on‑the‑job training, including theoretical knowledge and a range of work‑related procedures equivalent to a Level 2 vocational qualification.
  • Understanding and compliance with mandatory induction standards and the Code of Conduct for Health Care Support Workers in Wales.
  • Experience working as part of a team.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey information clearly and sensitively.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Level 2 vocational qualification in a relevant health‑care related subject.
  • Previous experience working with people in a caring capacity.
  • Welsh language skills (levels 1 to 5) in understanding, speaking, reading and writing.

Skills and Attributes

  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written, with ability to convey information clearly and sensitively.
  • Welsh language skills desirable levels 1 to 5 in understanding, speaking, reading and writing.

This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and requires a Disclosure to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.

Pay & Working Pattern

  • Salary: £26,300 per annum, pro rata.
  • Contract: Bank.
  • Working pattern: Flexible working.
