DART Healthcare Support Worker – HMP Humber (Closing date: 17 June 2026)

Overview

Join Spectrum Community Health CIC to deliver frontline healthcare for patients in prison. The role is full‑time (37.5 hours per week) and centres on patient care, supporting a multidisciplinary team with substance misuse and mental health services.

Responsibilities

  • Complete DART assessments (COWS, CIWA‑A, CIWA‑B) as directed by nursing staff.
  • Perform urine drug screening, phlebotomy and ECG recordings.
  • Assist with Buvidal injection clinics, BBV and sexual health screening.
  • Maintain accurate clinical documentation in line with service policies.
  • Carry out opioid toxicity checks and support opioid substitution therapy patients.
  • Provide harm‑reduction advice and general wellbeing support.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality, dignity and respect within the secure environment.

Person Specification

Education (Essential)

  • NVQ level 3 in health and social care or equivalent.
  • Or NHS Care Certificate or relevant clinical experience.
  • Or final year Registered Nursing student.

Experience (Essential)

  • Experience working with patients with complex health needs in a health or social care setting.
  • Knowledge of nursing standards and clinical procedures.
  • Understanding and application of confidentiality.

Experience (Desirable)

  • Experience in a prison or secured environment setting.
  • Experience working in multidisciplinary teams.
  • Experience responding to emergency situations.
  • Experience using SystmOne.

Skills (Essential)

  • Well‑developed verbal and written communication.
  • Teamworking skills, managing relationships and mitigating conflict.
  • Capability to carry out delegated tasks and escalating concerns appropriately.
  • Promote and support patients to manage their own mental and physical needs.

Skills (Desirable)

  • Patient assessment skills, recognising signs of substance‑related effects.
  • Extended scope of practice such as phlebotomy or ECG.
  • Simple wound‑care management.
