Job Summary

Medical coder – Join Bridge Lane Group Practice, a busy, friendly GP practice serving an inner‑city population of approximately 14,500 patients.

Responsibilities

  • Scan paper notes when appropriate.
  • Work in accordance with the practice summarising/coding protocol.
  • Read and code all incoming medical letters from the clinical team, either on paper or electronically.
  • Summarise, code and re‑direct all letters as appropriate received from various sources.
  • Check all computerised information is appropriately coded.
  • Check incoming letters for investigations ensuring all are entered appropriately.
  • Review medical records and produce an accurate summary of the patient’s medical history according to practice protocols.
  • Code information into the practice clinical system in accordance with local and practice guidelines.
  • File and retrieve paperwork.
  • Monitor progress of notes summarising against practice targets.
  • Make clinicians aware of any medical problems needing follow‑up or immediate treatment or intervention.
  • Alert clinicians to any reviews due for chronic disease monitoring.
  • Inform the doctor of any child protection case reviews or issues.
  • Have working knowledge of IT systems, particularly EMIS Web, Microsoft Outlook and Word.
