Job Summary
We are seeking a motivated peer support worker with lived experience of the criminal justice system and/or substance misuse. In this role you will lead and support volunteers and peer workers across the Black Country, promoting recovery‑focused services, fostering independence, and improving outcomes for service users.
Responsibilities
- Supervise and support peer support workers and volunteers, contributing to recruitment and workforce development.
- Hold a caseload and help service users overcome barriers, attending appointments with local substance use services where required.
- Partner with prisons and community substance use services, promoting services and fostering relationships.
- Maintain professional relationships, ensuring confidentiality, safeguarding, and appropriate boundaries.
- Co‑produce and deliver training and development activities for internal teams and external partners.
- Use lived experience to model recovery‑focused approaches, mentoring and supporting others.
- Promote independent living by linking service users to prison and community resources, including employment, housing, education, drug and alcohol support, and leisure services.
- Signpost individuals to appropriate supports, opportunities and activities to encourage informed decision‑making and wellbeing.
- Assist in developing and delivering educational programmes, peer support groups and recovery‑focused activities.
Essential Qualifications & Experience
- Own personal lived experience of recovery from criminal justice services and/or substance misuse challenges.
- Experience of having personally utilised criminal justice services and/or substance misuse treatment/recovery services.
- Experience working as a peer support worker across a range of health and/or social care settings.
- Experience supporting people within criminal justice settings and/or substance misuse services, helping them access opportunities beyond those services.
Desirable Qualifications & Training
- Accredited certificate in Life Coaching.
- Motivational Interviewing training.
Other Requirements
- Must be able to commute across Staffordshire and travel independently across the Black Country using a car.
