Overview
Fair Ways is a leading children’s services charity delivering fostering, education, residential and family services to over 400 children and vulnerable adults each year. We are seeking a reliable, enthusiastic Carpenter to join our maintenance team to carry out general maintenance and repair across our properties, predominantly based in the Solent area.
Responsibilities
- Provide high‑quality carpentry support to all Fair Ways Services according to project specifications, including reading and interpreting technical drawings and blueprints.
- Use hand tools, power tools, and fabrication equipment to carry out work within agreed timescales.
- Work safely, ensuring all risk assessments are followed and Health and Safety policies are adhered to.
- Remove and dispose of debris and waste, maintaining tidy sites and following waste management procedures.
- Communicate effectively with your line manager and the wider maintenance team, providing progress reports and feedback using the appropriate platforms.
- Manage your workload to meet deadlines and assist in project work as required.
- Attend and engage in weekly team meetings, contributing to discussions about current projects and continuous improvement.
- Work within a trauma‑informed environment, supporting a compassionate and resilient community.
Qualifications
Essential
- A Level 3 apprenticeship in carpentry and joinery.
- Strong knowledge of carpentry, joinery and roofing techniques.
- Proven experience as a carpenter or in a similar construction role.
- Proficiency in using hand tools, power tools and fabrication equipment.
- Valid relevant certifications or licences preferred.
- Relevant Fire Door installation qualification.
Desirable
- Ability to read technical drawings and blueprints.
- Awareness of the health and social care sector.

Additional Information
The role is a 37.5 hour per week reactive maintenance service based Monday to Friday. Applicants must live within a 30‑minute commute of the maintenance yard in Knowle, Fareham, hold a full driving licence, and be able to provide evidence of right to work in the UK. A vehicle, tools and uniform will be provided. A DBS check is required and the cost will be met by Fair Ways.
