Mechanical Fitter

My client is seeking a skilled Mechanical Fitter to join the Service & Solutions team in Sunderland, England. This temporary position may lead to a permanent contract.

Role: Mechanical Fitter – TemporaryLocation: Sunderland, North EastPay Rate: £17.98 per hour (overtime £26.97 per hour)Hours: Monday to Thursday 08:00–16:30, Friday 08:00–13:00.

Key Responsibilities

• Service, maintain, and repair industrial pumps and associated equipment
• Diagnose and resolve mechanical faults on-site
• Strip, inspect, and rebuild rotating equipment including pumps, motors, and seals
• Install and commission new systems and upgrades
• Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM)
• Complete service reports and documentation accurately
• Ensure compliance with health & safety procedures
• Provide technical advice and support

About You

• Proven experience as a Mechanical Fitter or Maintenance Engineer
• Strong knowledge of rotating equipment (pumps, motors, bearings, seals)
• Ability to fault‑find and problem‑solve under pressure
• Experience working in industrial or field‑based environments
• Comfortable working independently and managing your own workload
• Good communication and customer‑facing skills

Desirable but not essential

• Experience with pump systems or water‑related industries
• Basic electrical knowledge (motors, drives, controls)
• NVQ Level 3 / City & Guilds in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
• Apprenticeship‑trained
