Description

We are seeking an experienced Costs Draftsman to support fee earners and solicitors in drafting and negotiating legal costs for civil Housing Disrepair Claims. The role involves preparing costs schedules for EPA cases and ensuring expeditious recovery of costs.

Location & Working Arrangements: Manchester or Liverpool – Hybrid working available; remote considered for the right candidate.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Liaise with fee earners/ solicitors on costs for concluded cases.
  • Draft legal costs for court hearings relating to Statutory Nuisance claims under the Environmental Act 1990.
  • Draft and negotiate legal costs for Housing Disrepair and associated Breach of Contract claims.
  • Supervise junior costs paralegals supporting the in‑house Costs Team.
  • Enforce payment of legal costs and/or damages (advantageous but not essential).
  • Carry out other duties as required to assist in the smooth running of the business.

Requirements:

  • At least 2 years of legal costs drafting experience.
  • IT literate and able to work at pace while minimising errors.
  • Previous use of Costs Management software (Costs Master).
  • Authorised to work in the UK.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Good attention to detail and organisational ability.
  • Capability to prioritise tasks and work to tight timescales.
