Responsibilities

  • Maintain and repair mechanical, electrical and medical plant & equipment and building faults.
  • Deputise for Team Leaders and perform authorised/competent person roles (e.g., Legionella, medical gases, electrical safety and ventilation).
  • Contact approved contractors for maintenance breakdowns and repairs.
  • Participate in the on‑call rota to respond to emergencies outside core hours.
  • Address major incidents such as loss of electrical services, loss of medical gas, loss of heating and hot‑water services in critical areas.
  • Motivate, train and develop the maintenance team and apprenticeships, ensuring efficient use of labour and materials.
  • Plan, prioritise and execute scheduled maintenance and repair work.
  • Escalate calls to team leaders and contractors as required.

Qualifications – Essential

  • Completed a 4‑year apprenticeship (City & Guilds or NVQ Level 3).
  • Mechanical or plumbing training for electricians or electrical training for mechanical.
  • Significant post‑qualification experience as an engineering maintenance craftsman, electrician or mechanical engineer.
  • Proven communication skills.
  • Multi‑skilled to handle mechanical, building and electrical maintenance.
  • Depth working knowledge of engineering systems and maintenance experience.
  • Complex fault diagnosis skills.
  • Ability to plan and prioritise work.
  • Ability to operate computer‑controlled systems.

Qualifications – Desirable

  • Continuing training to latest electrical regulations.
  • Competent‑person training (medical gas, electrical, Legionella, as applicable).
  • Experience working in a health‑care environment.
  • Use of computer‑based risk and asbestos registers.
  • Experience with on‑call rota participation.
