Engineering Technician – Mechanical PRH

Main duties of the job
- Maintain and repair mechanical, electrical, medical plant & equipment, and building faults.
- Deputise for team leaders and fulfil authorised person / competent person roles (e.g., Legionella, medical gases, electrical safety, ventilation).
- Call approved contractors for maintenance breakdowns and repairs.
- Participate in the on‑call rota to handle emergency and urgent situations outside core working hours.
- Respond to major incidents such as loss of electrical services, medical gas, heating or hot water services in critical areas.
- Motivate, train and develop the maintenance team and apprenticeship scheme, ensuring efficient use of labour and materials.
- Plan and execute planned maintenance of mechanical and electrical plant, equipment, and services.
- Escalate calls to team leaders for contractor engagement.

Qualifications
- Completed and passed an apprenticeship in City and Guilds or NVQ Level 3.
- Mechanical/plumbing training for electricians or electrical training for mechanical engineers.
- Continuing training to keep up to date with the latest electrical regulations.
- Competent person Medical Gas Authorised Person; Electrical training for electrical technicians; Legionella responsible person training for mechanical technicians.
Knowledge and Experience
- A significant amount of post‑qualification experience as an engineering maintenance craftsman, electrician, or mechanical engineer with sufficient knowledge and experience for being on call.
- Proven communication skills.
- Multi‑skilled and able to deal with mechanical, building and electrical maintenance.
- Depth of working knowledge of engineering systems and experience in maintenance.
- Experience working in a healthcare environment.
Skills
- Complex fault diagnosis skills.
- Able to plan and prioritise work.
- Able to operate and use computer‑controlled systems.
- Evidence of undertaking own development to improve understanding of equalities issues.
- Utilisation of computer‑based risk and asbestos register.
