Pharmacy Support Worker – Medicines Supply and Distribution

An exciting opportunity to recruit a Pharmacy Support Worker (Distribution Area), Band 2, to join the Pharmacy Department. The post holder will support the safe and timely assembly, issue and distribution of medicines and stock items to wards and clinical areas across the Trust. Working under the supervision of qualified pharmacy staff, you will play a key role in ensuring medicines are available, correctly stored and in date to support effective patient care.
This role is ideal for someone who is organised, reliable and can work as part of a busy pharmacy team. Full training will be provided and the post holder will be supported to complete NVQ Level 2 in Pharmacy Services if not already held.
Main duties of the job
- Assist with assembly, issue and distribution of medicines, intravenous fluids and other pharmacy stock to wards and departments across the Trust.
- Undertake ward and department visits to support stock checking, rotation and replenishment in line with departmental procedures.
- Process routine and urgent stock requests accurately using pharmacy computer systems.
- Ensure medicines are stored, transported and issued safely, maintaining security and an auditable trail at all times.
- Work closely with pharmacy technicians, pharmacists, nursing and clinical staff to ensure ward stock levels support patient needs.
Work includes weekend shifts and late shifts on a rotational basis.
Previous experience is preferred but not essential. Mandatory: experience in lifting and handling of inanimate objects and good fitness due to frequent walking and standing.

The Pharmacy Department employs over 150 staff covering a wide range of activities throughout the Trust. Pharmacy Stores is the engine room of the department, ensuring all medicines are purchased, received and supplied correctly and in a timely manner.
Pharmacy provides bespoke training packages for all jobs and strongly believes in a “grow our own” ethos.
Job responsibilities
Note: This role will not be eligible for sponsorship as it doesn’t meet the minimum salary requirements for a skilled worker visa.
- Visit wards and clinical areas to carry out stock top-ups, expiry date checking and stock rotation, ensuring medicines are in date and stored correctly.
- Assemble and issue stock requests for medicines, intravenous fluids and other pharmaceutical products using the pharmacy computer system.
- Process urgent and routine requests from wards, clinics and external organisations accurately and efficiently.
- Ensure correct documentation is completed and maintained to allow full auditability of all medicines supplied.
- Maintain a clean, tidy and safe working environment within pharmacy distribution and storage areas.
- Liaise professionally with nursing staff, pharmacy technicians and pharmacists to resolve stock queries and support safe medicines use.
- Comply at all times with Trust policies, Health & Safety requirements, infection prevention and control guidance and confidentiality standards.
- Participate in training and development, including completion of NVQ Level 2 in Pharmacy Services as required.

- Good general education, literate and numerate.

- Confidence communicating with senior staff.
- GCSE Maths & English or equivalent.
