Equal Opportunity/Accessibility and Accommodations Statement: As a Disability Confident employer, Aspens Charities is committed to fostering an inclusive and supportive environment for individuals with disabilities. We actively promote the recruitment, retention, and career development of people with disabilities, recognising the invaluable contributions they make to our organisation. We are dedicated to ensuring an accessible recruitment process for all candidates. If you require any accommodations during the application or interview process, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
About The Role
At Aspens, a highly regarded charity, we work across Kent and Sussex; supporting individuals with autistic spectrum conditions, learning disabilities and physical disabilities. We offer residential care, supporting living, day activities and a fantastic community outreach programme. Working closely with people we support is a key part of your role. Within our PBS services we need to ensure that there is a high level of understanding of each individual’s needs, allowing them to live the most independent and active life possible. Some of the people we support have specific guidelines in place that they must follow, which helps them understand their day and develop independent living skills, with limited distress to the individual.
Within our Aspens PBS services, we ensure that the PWS have access to the community, ensuring their personal wants and needs are met. As support workers, we need to ensure that the residents are fulfilling activities of their choice. This could be from going swimming or bike riding to completing their food shopping or visiting a castle. There are a variety of activities that the PWS and their support worker could be involved in.
All staff members are required to be competent in their roles, including training on and off site, such as NAPPI. This training ensures confidence is maintained throughout behaviours that challenge – shouting, hitting, grabbing, throwing objects. Staff may also complete L3 accredited PBS qualifications, helping to understand why behaviours could be presenting in a manner. Supervision is completed regularly with your line manager to discuss strengths and areas of improvement throughout the role.
