Maintenance Plant Fitter (Mechanical)

Location: Halecombe Quarry & Asphalt Plant – Frome, Somerset

Reporting to the Section Manager, you will play a key role in keeping our production assets safe, reliable and efficient across both quarry and asphalt operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Respond to mechanical breakdowns and restore plant to production quickly and safely.
• Carry out emergency and planned maintenance on all production equipment.
• Support preventative maintenance planning and shutdown activities.
• Perform welding and fabrication to a good standard.
• Diagnose faults, conduct root cause analysis and prevent repeat failures.
• Own small improvement projects and see them through to completion.
• Coordinate contractors and manage on‑site works safely.
• Use the CMMS to record work, faults and spares used.
• Promote and challenge standards around Health, Safety and Environment.

About You

• Self‑motivated mechanical fitter with experience in an industrial or heavy plant environment.
• Confidence working with minimal supervision.
• Recognised mechanical apprenticeship (higher level preferred) or ONC/HNC (desirable).
• Hands‑on experience with heavy mechanical systems such as conveyors, motors, pumps, gearboxes, crushers, screens and drive systems.
• Proven fault‑finding and breakdown repair capability.
• Experience removing and fitting bearings.
• Strong understanding of SHE risks and safe working practices.
