Play Support Worker – Paediatrics

This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and compassionate individual to support the delivery of high-quality therapeutic play services for babies, children, and young people receiving care in hospital.
Job Summary
As a Play Support Worker, you will help create a welcoming, engaging, and child‑friendly environment where play is used to reduce anxiety, encourage emotional wellbeing, and support children through often challenging experiences.
Main Duties
- Work under the general direction of play specialists to assist with the daily running of the play service throughout Paediatrics.
- Contribute to the delivery of a high-quality play service, ensuring that all children, young people, families, staff, and members of the public are treated with kindness, respect, and dignity.
- Provide a warm and welcoming environment and offer prompt and courteous support to those requiring assistance.
- Organise and supervise individual and group play activities that reflect each child’s age, stage of development, medical needs, and personal interests.
- Ensure play is inclusive, therapeutic, and culturally appropriate, promoting emotional wellbeing and aiding the hospital experience.
- Assist in preparing and maintaining play areas and resources, ensuring all toys and equipment are clean, safe, and suitable for use.
- Take responsibility for the health, safety, and wellbeing of children in your care, remaining vigilant and responsive to their needs.
- Maintain clear and effective communication, liaising sensitively and professionally with children, families, and members of the multidisciplinary team.
Skills & Knowledge
- Good written English and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to communicate verbally with all levels of personnel within the organisation.
- Able to work with a team and independently.
- Good administration and organisational skills.
Experience
- Customer care experience (essential).
- Previous experience working in an acute hospital (desirable).
Qualifications
- Educated to GCSE (or equivalent) level.
- Willing to undertake training appropriate for the role.
