Overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen to recruit a Pharmacy Support Worker in the Distribution Area to join the Pharmacy Department. The post holder will support the safe, timely assembly, issue and distribution of medicines and stock items to wards and clinical areas across the Trust, working under the supervision of qualified pharmacy staff. The role will be supported with full training and, if not already held, the completion of NVQ Level 2 in Pharmacy Services.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with the assembly, issue and distribution of medicines, intravenous fluids and other pharmacy stock to wards and departments across the Trust.
- Visit wards and clinical areas to carry out stock top‑ups, expiry date checking and stock rotation, ensuring medicines are in date and stored correctly.
- Process routine and urgent stock requests accurately using pharmacy computer systems.
- Ensure medicines are stored, transported and issued safely, maintaining security and an auditable trail at all times.
- Maintain a clean, tidy and safe working environment within pharmacy distribution and storage areas.
- Liaise professionally with nursing staff, pharmacy technicians and pharmacists to resolve stock queries and support safe medicine use.
- Comply with Trust policies, Health & Safety requirements, infection prevention and control guidance and confidentiality standards.
- Participate in training and development, including completion of NVQ Level 2 in Pharmacy Services, where required.
This role also involves working weekend shifts and late shifts on a rotational basis as part of a small dispensary team.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience
- Essential: Effective team worker, commitment to training and own development, good general education, literacy and numeracy, computing & IT skills, effective verbal and written communication skills, ability to prioritise tasks and meet deadlines, ability to use own initiative, ability to follow policies and procedures, ability to work accurately, paying attention to detail.
- Desirable: Confidence in communicating with senior staff, GCSE Maths & English or equivalent.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to handle heavy objects and lift and handle inanimate objects.
- Manual dexterity.
- Reliable and punctual.
- Adaptable to changing circumstances and workload.
Other Information
This role will not be eligible for sponsorship; you must have the appropriate right to work in the UK.
Salary: £25,272 a year per annum. Band 2. Permanent, full‑time contract.
