Volunteer Catering Assistant

Support with the daily operation within a professional kitchen environment by assisting with routine food preparation, maintaining high standards of cleanliness and food hygiene, and helping to ensure the smooth flow of kitchen activities.

Main duties of the job

To assist in basic food preparation such as salad preparation.

Gain an understanding of food safety within a professional setting as well as understanding the importance of allergens within a professional setting.

Train in handling cash alongside colleagues within the caf.

Work alongside catering colleagues within the dept in offering customer service (serving) and gaining an understanding of portion control and why this is important to maximise profit.

Person Specification

Experience

  • Experience of working as part of a team
  • Experience following instructions or procedures

Training and qualifications

  • Willingness to undertake induction training
  • Level 1 or Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate (Food Safety in Catering)

Skills and Knowledge

  • Knowledge of allergens and safe food handling
