Main duties of the job

In this role, you will supportthe effective delivery of medicines optimisation across community services. Youwill help maintain accurate records, monitor data to highlight trends or risks,and quality improvement work that supports safe and consistent practice.

Working closely withpharmacists and wider teams, you will provide practical support across a rangeof medicines governance activities, responding to queries within yourcompetence and ensuring processes are followed in line with policies andguidance. You will also contribute to training and supporting colleagues,helping to promote good practice across services.

The role requires strongorganisational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage your ownworkload while working collaboratively. You will be confident using data, ableto identify when to escalate issues, and committed to maintaining high standardsof professionalism in everything you do.

Job responsibilities

Job Purpose

The post holder will support the delivery ofmedicines optimisation across community healthcare services. Working as part ofthe Medicines Management team, the role ensures the safe, effective, andcost-efficient use of medicines.

The Medicines Optimisation Pharmacy Technicianwill:

Provide advice andsupport to colleagues on medicines within professional competence.

Maintain accuraterecords and manage medicines-related documentation in line with governance,legislation and organisational policies.

Monitor and reviewdata, identify trends, and support the organisation to improve practice, ensurecompliance, and enhance patient safety.

Contribute to stafftraining, development, and continuous quality improvement initiatives relatedto medicines optimisation.

Work independently and as part of the team to manage the teams workloadand priorities

Support compliance with medicines legislation, policies, and proceduresto ensure safe and effective practice.

Maintain accurate records, audit trails, and documentation to meetgovernance and regulatory requirements.

Support the identification, investigation, and resolution ofmedicines-related incidents, risks, and safety alerts.

Contribute to the development and review of medicines-related policiesand procedures.

Support the safe, effective, and cost-efficient use of medicines acrossservices.

Maintain medicines-related systems and records, including prescribinggovernance processes.

Work with stakeholders to promote best practice in medicines use.

Data, Audit & QualityImprovement

Assist in monitoring data and supporting improvements in practice andcompliance.

Collect and analyse data to identify trends, risks, and opportunitiesfor improvement.

Contribute to quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient safetyand service delivery.

Administration & ServiceSupport

Maintain accurate records in line with policies, procedures andlegislative requirements.

Provide administrative support, including coordinating meetings, preparing documentation, and tracking actions.

Person Specification

Additional Criteria

  • All appointments are subject to satisfactory occupational health clearance.
  • Ability to cope with the demands of the role, including keyboard use for extended periods and occasional manual handling of files or equipment.
  • Full driving licence or the ability to travel between locations.
  • Ability to be flexible over hours worked within contracted hours to meet the needs of the service

Qualifications

  • Registered Pharmacy Technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC)
  • Qualification recognised by the General Pharmaceutical Council for registration as a Pharmacy Technician, such as, level 4 certificate of higher education in Pharmacy Technician practice (UEA), BTEC in Pharmaceutical Science or NVQ Level 3 in Pharmacy Services
  • Evidence of ongoing Continuing Professional Development (CPD)

Experience

  • Experience of safe storage, handling, and stock control of medicines
  • Experience of audit activity, data collection, logging incidents, and record keeping
  • Experience of training and supporting staff within agreed competencies
  • Experience of working with multidisciplinary teams and partner organisations
  • Experience of supporting or contributing to service change or development initiatives
  • Experience of medicines optimisation or medicines management
  • Experience of administrative support, including meeting documentation
  • Experience of analysing prescribing and medicines usage data and supporting prescribing governance
  • Experience of managing controlled medicines documentation/stationery
