Job Purpose

Assist the Cook in Charge in the preparation and serving of meals in a safe, hygienic, efficient manner while providing a high standard of customer service.

Job Details

  • Location: Aberdeen City, Scotland, United Kingdom
  • Duration: Permanent, Part Time
  • Roles that require PVG membership: PVG membership may be required for roles with a full time equivalent salary of £30,000 and above. The Council initially pays the cost of the PVG membership, which will be deducted from the employee’s first full month’s salary.

Minimum Requirements

  • Elementary Food Hygiene Certificate or willingness to undertake and pass this course within 6 months.
  • FSA – Food Standards Agency food allergy online training, completed within 1 month.
  • Full PVG certificate (Disclosure Scotland Protection of Vulnerable Groups) – must be processed and received before start date is confirmed.

Skills and Competencies

  • Proficient cooking skills for large‑scale meal production, ensuring consistently high‑quality presentation.
  • Awareness of risks within a kitchen environment.
  • Ability to count cash and cheques.
  • Sound written and numeracy skills.
  • Good verbal communication skills.
  • Sound understanding of the English language to meet health and safety standards.
  • Sound ICT skills related to catering services.
  • Ability to follow defined recipes provided by the service for meal preparation.
  • Ability to deputise for any Cook in Charge during periods of absence.
  • High standard of hygiene awareness.
