About the Role
Earn while you learn. This apprenticeship is offered by Stoneacre Motor Group in partnership with BYD, a leading global electric vehicle brand. You will work full‑time in a garage workshop in Wigan, gaining a Level 2 Autocare Technician Apprenticeship and progressing to the Level 3 motor vehicle technician standard. The program combines hands‑on work with structured training, preparing you for a career in the growing electric vehicle sector.
Typical Day
Based in the garage workshop, you will be involved in all aspects of vehicle repair and maintenance: servicing, MOT preparation, and removal, replacement and overhaul of major components, as well as electrical fault diagnostics. You will support the maintenance and repair of electric and hybrid vehicles and work alongside experienced technicians.
Key Responsibilities
- Learn and perform vehicle servicing, MOT preparation, and major component work.
- Conduct inspection of light vehicles and carry out vehicle inspections.
- Diagnose and rectify chassis and engine faults, including electric and hybrid systems.
- Assist with troubleshooting and fault finding, using diagnostic tools.
- Follow safe working practices, especially around EV systems, and contribute to workplace housekeeping.
- Attend block‑release training weeks through GTG to complete Level 2 and Level 3 standards.

Hours & Work Schedule
Monday to Friday, 8 am – 5 pm (40 hours per week).
Qualifications & Skills
- GCSE Level 4 or above in Maths and English.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Positive attitude and strong work ethic.
- Ability to prioritise work and meet timelines.
- Willingness to learn and develop new skills.
- Full UK driving licence not essential but preferred.
Personal Qualities
- A genuine interest in cars and electric vehicles.
- Willingness to work in a practical environment using your own initiative.
