Join our team as a Home Care Assistant Apprentice and support vulnerable individuals in their daily lives. You will learn practical care skills, gain hands‑on experience, and provide compassionate support while working towards your qualification.
- Apprentices aged 18‑20 years receive an hourly wage of £11.25
- Apprentices aged 21+ receive an hourly wage of £12.80
Training course: Adult Care Worker (Level 2)
Hours: Shift‑based between 7 am and 10 pm, including mornings, evenings, and alternate weekends (rota‑based with breaks). 30‑40 hours per week, depending on the rota and business needs.
Duration: 1 year

Most of your apprenticeship is spent on the job, learning by doing.
What you’ll do at work
- Support service users with personal care such as washing, dressing and grooming.
- Assist with meal preparation, hydration and monitoring nutritional needs.
- Help service users maintain a safe, clean and comfortable home environment.
- Provide companionship, emotional support and encourage independence.
- Record daily notes accurately and report any concerns to senior staff.
- Support mobility needs, including safe moving and handling with training.
- Follow care plans, safeguarding procedures and health & safety guidelines.

Training
Apprenticeships include time away from work for specialist training. You’ll study to gain professional knowledge and skills.
- Support individuals according to their personal care/support plan
- Seek help from an appropriate person when not confident or skilled in any aspect of your role
- Provide individuals with information to enable them to make choices about their support
- Encourage individuals to participate in the way their care and support is delivered
- Ensure the individual knows what they are agreeing to regarding the way in which they are supported
- Contribute to the ongoing development of care/support plans for the individual you support
- Support individuals with cognitive, physical or sensory impairments
- Ensure dignity is at the centre of all work with the individuals you support, their families, carers and advocates
- Demonstrate that work is person‑centred, accommodating the individual’s needs, wishes and preferences
- Show empathy (understanding and compassion) for individuals you support
- Show courage in supporting people in ways that may challenge their personal or cultural beliefs
- Speak clearly and exhibit positive non‑verbal communication to individuals, families, carers and advocates
- Use the preferred methods of communication of the individual you support according to their language, culture, sensory needs and wishes
- Identify and take steps to reduce environmental barriers to communication
- Check for understanding
- Write clearly and concisely in records and reports
- Keep information safe and confidential according to agreed ways of working

- Carry out fire safety procedures when required
- Use risk assessments to support individuals safely
- Recognise symptoms of cognitive impairment such as dementia, learning disabilities and mental health
- Monitor and report changes in health and wellbeing for individuals you support
- Reflect on your own work practices
- Develop your own skills and knowledge, including core skills in writing, numbers and information technology
- Contribute to your development plan
- Work in partnership with others to support the individual
- Identify sources of support when conflicts arise with others or organisations
- Operate within safe, clear professional boundaries
- Access and apply additional skills required to perform the specific job role competently
- Work towards the Adult Care Worker Level 2 Apprenticeship Standard including the City & Guilds Level 2 Diploma in Care.
- Receive 1‑to‑1 tutor support from an assessor with tuition arranged individually.
Requirements
GCSE in Maths and English (grade 9‑2 or A*‑E)
Car Driving licence (grade Pass)
Share any other relevant qualifications and industry experience; the apprenticeship can be adjusted to reflect what you already know.
