Ambulance Vehicle Preparation (AVP) Operative – Huddersfield

Job Summary
To sustain and support our current AVP requirements we are pleased to offer a vacancy for dedicated AVP Operatives based in Huddersfield Ambulance Station. The role is full-time and offers competitive unsocial rates in addition to a basic salary of £25,272 per annum.
Hours & Pay
Full-time 24/7 shift rota, including bank holidays, weekends and nights. Unsocial payments may bring total pay to approximately £6,000 per annum depending on shift patterns. Holiday entitlement ranges from 27 days up to 33 days pro-rata.
Responsibilities
- Process ambulance service vehicles in a prescribed and controlled way, ensuring each ambulance is fully equipped and prepared to attend and treat a patient.
- Perform detailed cleaning and Infection Prevention and Control activities.
- Check and inspect medical and lifting & handling equipment.
- Restock consumables and complete vehicle checks.
- Prepare consumables, manage stock control, re-fuelling and moving vehicles across various locations.
- Record all daily activities and re-patriate equipment from hospital trusts.
- Drive vehicles – requires a full UK driving licence (no more than 3 penalty points) and a valid C1 entitlement. Candidates without a C1 licence may be considered if training is funded (cost recovered over four years).
Qualifications & Knowledge
- Previous cleaning experience.
- Working knowledge of COSHH / Risk Assessments.
- Previous knowledge of Infection Control Procedures.
- Full valid UK driving licence.
- Ability to work individually or as part of a team.
- Ability to work unsocial hours on a 7-day/24-hour shift rota system.
Desirable
- Previous experience implementing effective Infection Prevention & Control measures.
- C1 Driving Licence.
- Awareness of Workplace Health and Safety, COSHH, Risk Assessments (preferably within the cleaning services sector).
- Ability to work alone and deal with a number of issues using initiative.
- Good customer service skills.
Essential Skills
- Ability to complete tasks and achieve results.
- Effective communicator, both verbal and written.
- Basic IT skills (email, internet, office), including handheld data devices such as tablets and telephones.
- Good literacy and numerical skills to pass required examinations and tests.
Training
No prior experience required – a full four-week training package is provided. Training includes Level 2 Apprenticeship and access to Level 2 NCFE.
