Staff Mentor / Leader

The Marlborough Science Academy

St Albans Herts AL1 2QA

Salary: UPS3

Fixed Term – Part Time 2 Days Per Week – September 2026

We are looking to appoint a highly experienced teacher of excellence for 2 days per week. The post is a non‑teaching post paid at UPS3 whereby you would be responsible for the mentoring and supporting of a number of new staff. You will be line managed by an experienced mentor and the Deputy Head.

This is a new post that would suit a colleague with considerable experience who understands pedagogy and has outstanding communication skills.

We are not looking for any subject specialism in particular, but a fantastic teacher, probably retired, who now feels they have something to give to the profession in the development of trainee teachers who are training over a number of different pathways.

About the School: Shaping Futures

The Marlborough Science Academy is a highly successful, mixed comprehensive school with a reputation for its resilience, innovation and creativity. We do not believe in ‘glass ceilings’ or labelling students by targets; we believe that with extraordinary teaching, no student is left behind and curiosity is the key.

Our Values & Ethos

Marlborough is a very special place defined by our “Values”. As a Single Academy Trust, we sit at the heart of a vibrant learning community in St Albans. We pride ourselves on our unique ethos described by staff and students as being ‘just like a family’. We are a school that combines academic aspiration with a deep sense of care, inclusion, and opportunities for all.

Our values are not just words on a wall; they underpin every decision, policy, and procedure. We are looking for a teacher who embodies these five values:

  • Dignity
  • Kindness
  • Compassion
  • Courage
  • Endeavour

We offer a fringe salary rate and continuous service recognition for colleagues transferring from a school in the Herts LEA area. The school supports and promotes the safeguarding of children and is an equal opportunities employer. References will be sought prior to interview. This vacancy will be subject to an enhanced DBS check and will require the candidates to evidence the right to work in the UK. We may also carry out checks on social media for shortlisted candidates. This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (ROA) 1974.
