GENETIC TECHNOLOGIST – GENETIC TESTING / BIOTECH – LONDON – FULL TIME- UP TO £30,000 (NEG DEPENDANT UPON EXPERIENCE)

We are a leading Genetic Testing organization seeking an experienced GENETIC TECHNOLOGIST to join our team on a permanent, full-time, basis in our Hammersmith Laboratory, London.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a rapidly growing BioTech company and to share in our success as we grow. You will be responsible for carrying out patient testing within the London laboratory and the delivery of high quality Clinical Genetics services to both private and NHS patients.

Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Undertaking the technical and analytical duties of a Genetic lab Technologist and to support our Senior Clinical Scientists in the provision of an effective and high-quality genetics diagnostic test service to support referring clinicians.
  • Be able to work proficiently in all pre/post lab sections, and with all test procedures.
  • Highly developed co-ordination skills with good manual dexterity.
  • Ability to produce accurate, analytical work.
  • Ability to follow standard operating procedures accurately and create SOPs where needed.
  • Ability to interpret/recognise problems arising during testing and communicate these to appropriate scientific staff.
  • Effective team worker but ability to work on own initiative.
  • Good organisational skills, time keeping and eagerness to learn new skills.
  • Practical and appropriate theoretical knowledge of genetic techniques and their clinical applications
  • Maintain a high level of accuracy and reliability in defined routine, preparative, processing, analytical and associated procedures following documented laboratory protocols.

As part of the role you will:

  • Collaborate with other members of the laboratory and department in all matters necessary to achieve the maximum efficiency of the service.
  • Work with the team to ensure achievement and adherence to the standards required of ISO15189:2020 medical laboratory accreditation and ISO13485.
  • Participate in clinical audit projects as an on-going review of service quality and efficiency under the supervision of the Quality Manager and Clinical Scientists.
  • Undertake routine testing and support activities following standard protocols to a standard that enables the accurate, timely, and efficient delivery of the highest quality of service to patients and clinical colleagues.
  • Maintain accurate records, and participate in maintaining online reporting platforms and other operational systems as required.

What we are looking for

Essential:

  • MUST have a minimum of a Batchelors degree in biological science
  • Have 2yrs minimum previous experience of laboratory work, including experience of analytical procedures (ideally in a commercial lab)

  • Good interpersonal and communication skills. Personable and able to communicate with staff of all levels. Able to work cross-functionally.
  • Work effectively, independently and under supervision, being able to adapt to fast pace rapidly changing environment. Flexible approach to work and the tasks to be undertaken.
  • Able to work on a broad range of tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to demonstrate high organisation skills, and with good attention to detail.
  • Must demonstrate sound judgment, analytical skills to enable assessment of risk.
  • Create and maintain a high quality image of the company in front of different stakeholders.
  • Have knowledge of departmental IT systems, EQMS, LIMs and appropriate automated software packages

The Role:

  • Up to £30,000 Basic Salary (Neg based upon experience)
  • 25 Days Holiday + Statutory days
