Geophysical Field Technician

We have an exciting opportunity for a Geophysical Field Technician to join our expanding geophysics team based in Hemel Hempstead.

This is an ideal role for a motivated graduate or early‑career geophysicist seeking hands‑on, technically challenging fieldwork across the UK. The position focuses on practical geophysical site investigations, outdoor survey operations, buried utility mapping, and collection of high‑quality geophysical data, with opportunities to develop into data processing, interpretation, and project delivery over time. Good communication skills are required; the candidate should work well within a team and be self‑motivated.

Qualifications

  • Hold (or are predicted to achieve in 2026) a 2:2 degree or above in geophysics or a related geoscience discipline
  • Enjoy regular outdoor, physically demanding, and technically varied site work
  • Are strong communicators and team players
  • Have good self‑motivation and organisational skills
  • Demonstrate a good awareness of health and safety practices
  • Are seeking to work with one of the UK’s leading near‑surface geophysics consultancies

Responsibilities

  • Extensive site‑based data acquisition using GPR, electrical conductivity mapping, resistivity systems, magnetometry, microgravity, seismic techniques, and undertaking geophysical and PAS128 utility surveys across the UK
  • Inspection cover lifting, service tracing, and buried utility detection
  • Electromagnetic locators: using tracer cables, sondes, and electromagnetic locating systems
  • Operating high‑precision GPS and total station survey equipment
  • Collecting, recording, and managing accurate site notes
  • Supporting equipment maintenance, calibration, and store management
  • Travelling nationwide to support projects and operational requirements
