Job Responsibilities
Under the guidance and direction of the Chief Scientific Officer (CSO), the Head of R&D and Scientific Strategy supports or leads matrix teams or enterprise‑wide initiatives aimed at driving value by harnessing the company’s scientific capabilities. The office of the CSO focuses on integrating medical and scientific resources across functions to create innovative solutions for customers and to drive collaboration across the enterprise. The Head of R&D and Scientific Strategy will contribute to and execute the Scientific Communications and Thought Leadership Strategy, engage in customer‑facing activities such as meetings, bid defenses, and awareness initiatives, and coordinate with senior management, customers, and project teams.
- Acts as a primary senior‑level contact for initiatives or teams the Head of R&D and Scientific Strategy is leading.
- Participates in customer proposals, Request for Information (RFIs), presentations, proposal defenses, and steering committees.
- Coordinates acquisition of necessary medical/scientific input from outside experts, consultants, and advisors.
- Represents the company and the CSO office at industry meetings, speaking engagements, and exhibitions, and publishes scientific articles in industry journals.
- Ensures quality standards are set and maintained over all areas of responsibility.
- Manages professional development and performance of subordinate staff, delegates tasks, and reviews progress of all direct reports.
- Performs additional tasks and duties as directed by Executive Management.
Qualifications
MD, DO preferred.
- Extensive clinical development leadership experience in biopharma, CRO, or consulting; experience inside a Pharma organization preferred.
- Extensive leadership experience in a clinical research organization, including clinical operations, business development, and senior management.
- Academic or industry experience in clinical medicine or drug development.
- Experience actively managing clinical research projects across functional areas preferred.
- Thorough knowledge of FDA regulations, drug development, and clinical monitoring procedures.
- Demonstrated proficiency with ICH/GCP guidelines.
- Excellent time‑management skills to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment.
- Excellent presentation, documentation, negotiation, and interpersonal skills with a team‑oriented approach.
- Experience working in a matrixed team environment is critical; strong skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), email, and voicemail.

Compensation
The base salary range represents the anticipated low and high of the Syneos Health range for this position. Actual salary will vary based on various factors such as the candidate’s qualifications, skills, competencies, and proficiency for the role.
