Our client, a leading organisation in power infrastructure, is hiring for a Principal Substation Primary (HV Plant) Design Engineer to join their dynamic team. This is a fantastic opportunity to work on diverse projects within the transmission and distribution sectors across the UK, supporting innovative energy solutions.
What you’ll be doing
- Lead FEED and detailed design workstreams for HV substations, ensuring technical excellence and compliance with client specifications.
- Manage and mentor a team of engineers, supporting their development and performance.
- Oversee design reviews, including layouts, earthing, interlocking schemes, and HV equipment specifications.
- Coordinate project interfaces with internal teams, subcontractors, and suppliers for seamless delivery.
- Act as tender manager for HV plant packages, reviewing technical offers and ensuring competitive submissions.
- Engage with clients and stakeholders through meetings, site visits, and technical reviews.
- Support business growth by maintaining strong client relationships and identifying new opportunities.
What you’ll bring
- Experience leading technical teams in primary plant design for substations.
- Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent; Chartered Engineer or working towards it.
- Proven expertise in HV plant design within the UK or internationally.
- Skilled in preparing bids, cost estimates, and working with electrical standards (IEC, IEEE).
- Effective communicator with the ability to manage multiple priorities and travel when needed.
