Job Description:

We are looking for a forward-thinking research leader on a permanent basis. This senior role requires significant experience in health research management, delivery, strategy, research performance management, finance and regulatory requirements. The incumbent will lead the Research & Development team and serve as a key member of the Trust senior leadership team.

Responsibilities

  • Develop the portfolio and increase the profile of the research department.
  • Provide oversight of research in the Trust and manage performance of the local research portfolio, continually improving processes.
  • Ensure clinical trials operate according to national guidelines and regulatory standards.
  • Provide assurance to internal and external groups in relation to governance and quality.
  • Ensure the Trust fulfills contractual requirements related to NIHR funding allocation, including producing regular performance and finance reports to Yorkshire & Humber RRDN.
  • Report on national and regional performance metrics and manage risks to the Trust.
  • Support business cases and grant applications, submitting cases to the RRDN for additional strategic funding.
  • Manage research contracts and collaborator agreements.
  • Provide expert advice and support to individuals within the Trust and external organisations.
  • Build and maintain relationships internally and externally to provide research opportunities for patients, carers, service users and staff.
  • Actively form new research collaborations, including with commercial companies.
  • Develop and mentor new Principal and Chief Investigators.
  • Represent the Trust in the public domain and at key stakeholder meetings.

Qualifications

  • Significant experience in health research management, delivery, strategy, performance management, finance and regulatory requirements.
  • Proven people-management and communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Highly organized, self-motivated, enthusiastic and confident, with a track record of leading large, complex research programmes.
