Job Description:

Accountabilities

Governance: Lead and attend project reviews / project meetings; maintain awareness of the Digital Briefcase; keep accurate project records (progress, daily diaries, etc.); prepare internal/external reports and liaise with stakeholders.

Analytical Thinking & Decision Making

Provide relevant information to enable cost‑effective decisions in line with overall strategy; ensure scope and package assignment supports coordinated working.

Health, Safety & Environmental

Maintain focus on zero harm and stay current with legislative changes; responsible for safety and welfare of the public, employees and supply chain; conduct safety tours and promote safety initiatives; support accident/incident investigations; monitor the H&S Management System and implement improvement solutions; write and review RAMS and accept subcontractor RAMS; identify, raise and report risks and hazards; ensure sufficient and competent workforce; manage safety documentation; perform audits.

Risk, Issue & Opportunity

Assist the Project Manager in leading risk/opportunity reviews, presenting the Risk Register and recommending/implementing changes; log and escalate issues that cannot be resolved at the delegated level of authority.

Procurement & Supply Chain

Manage subcontractors, monitoring attendance and progress, providing instruction and support; achieve contractual arrangements; ensure procurement plans align with project schedules and deliver materials to meet deadlines.

Quality

Follow KPIs aligned with project objectives and monitor performance; ensure assurance activities (audits) are undertaken and take appropriate actions on findings; contribute to workshops on continuous improvement principles.

Planning

Develop, implement and periodically update resource‑loaded schedules; adopt productivity and project controls techniques; monitor progress and implement short‑interval control processes; hold weekly meetings; ensure operational milestones reflect the master schedule and customer expectations.

Commercial & Contract

Ensure expenditure aligns with the budget and resources are utilized efficiently; identify elements for cost recovery; incorporate commercial constraints into decision making; analyse, appraise and implement Commercial Engineering (CE) changes; own the budget; understand the contract and manage commercial change; request plant and materials.

Digital

Maintain Digital Group Minimum Standards and use appropriate digital tools; ensure the team has correct digital training and provide coaching where required; advocate consistency and reliability of digital data to support project delivery.

Resources & Development

Develop, implement and update resource allocation plans; raise appropriate requests; promote upskilling; coordinate with other project activities and internal functions.

Leadership & Line Management

Motivate and empower the team using training, mentoring and performance management; produce plans for the team to achieve goals and aspirations; deputise where required in collaboration with Project Management.

Personal Qualities & Experience

Desirable qualities include being an organized, innovative and creative Project Engineer with commercial/project management skills; experience in safe systems of work, risk management, change processes and solutions‑based problem solving; good interpersonal and negotiation skills; confidence in communicating new concepts to technical and non‑technical stakeholders; awareness and promotion of diversity and inclusion; resilience and determination; proactive development of junior team members; proficiency in O365.

Qualifications

Formal qualification in construction/engineering or equivalent industry experience; desire to work towards or hold APM PFQ/PMQ; hold CSCS and SMSTS or equivalent.
