Veterinary Surgeon – Small Animal
Byre Veterinary Surgery, Peterborough – Salary up to £65,000 DOE, Fixed‑term maternity cover contract (9 months or until the substantive post holder returns).
As the UK’s number one vet care provider, we support a busy first‑opinion small animal and exotics practice. This role offers the opportunity to serve as a Veterinary Surgeon on a maternity cover basis, working with a dedicated team of professionals.
Practice Highlights
- Team of 4 Vets, including an Exotics Specialist and an Exotics Certificate holder
- Team of 4 RVNs, including 2 with Exotics Certificates and 1 with a Behaviour Certificate

How You’ll Make a Difference
You will work collaboratively with the wider practice team to deliver a high standard of patient and client care across a varied and rewarding caseload. The role supports continued development of clinical skills, knowledge sharing and positive contribution to the clinical culture.
The position requires confidence with consultations and routine surgical procedures, and the occasional sole charge on Saturday mornings. Ideally, you will have at least two years of clinical experience, with an interest in surgery and dentistry advantageous.

- Participation in Saturday morning rota required
Qualifications
- Veterinary degree and registration (or eligibility to register) with the RCVS
- Experience in clinical practice with growing confidence in routine medical and surgical cases
- Strong communication skills and ability to build effective relationships with clients and colleagues
- A proactive approach to learning, openness to feedback and development
- Professionalism, reliability and ability to work both independently and collaboratively
