Clinical Nurse Manager Medical day Unit

The role within the Medical Day Care Unit is centred on delivering specialist, high‑quality care to patients requiring ongoing monitoring, treatment, and support within an ambulatory setting. The Clinical Nurse Manager is responsible for managing a defined caseload, ensuring safe, effective, and coordinated care through close collaboration with the multidisciplinary team.
Main duties of the job
Key responsibilities include undertaking comprehensive patient assessments, monitoring treatment responses, and supporting the safe administration and ongoing review of specialist therapies. The role also involves interpreting diagnostic results, identifying clinical risks, and escalating concerns appropriately to ensure timely intervention. A strong focus is placed on patient education, including supporting individuals to understand their condition, treatment plans, and self‑management strategies, alongside providing emotional support at key stages of their care pathway.
The nurse acts as a patient advocate, ensuring that care is individualised, clearly communicated, and delivered with compassion. They maintain effective communication with patients, families, and the wider healthcare team, upholding high standards of documentation, confidentiality, and clinical governance.
In addition, the role contributes to the day‑to‑day operational running of the Medical Day Care Unit, supporting service development, quality improvement initiatives, and audit activity. The postholder provides guidance and support to junior staff, promotes effective team working, and participates in clinical and operational meetings to ensure continuous service improvement. They also support the appropriate use of resources, ensuring patients have equitable access to treatments, equipment, and relevant support service.

Person Specification
Knowledge
- Registered Nurse (Adult) with current NMC registration. Evidence of continued professional development relevant to dermatology practice.
- Excellent communication and organisational skills, with the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Experienced in managing patients receiving biologic or systemic therapies.
- Nurse Prescriber.
- Previous experience at Band 7 level or in a role with leadership responsibilities.
Experience
- Worked IN MDU /outpatient settings.
- Band 7 experience.
- Competent IT skills including email power point ,excel word.
- Teaching, mentorship or clinical supervision experience supporting junior staff development.
