Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (MCHFT) invites applications for the position of Healthcare Science Practitioner – Audiologist in its Audiology Department at Leighton Hospital.

Job Summary

We serve a population of 405,000 across a range of locations and offer a range of services including direct referral for hearing aid assessment, adult aural rehabilitation (including domiciliary and outreach clinics), support to ENT, pediatric assessment and rehabilitation (supporting the Pediatric services, Women’s and Children’s) and tinnitus assessment and therapy. The role involves assessment and rehabilitation of adults with flexible working that includes evening clinics. Closing date: 15 June 2026.

Responsibilities

  • Act as a practising Healthcare Practitioner contributing towards a comprehensive Audiology Service.
  • Assist the Audiology Manager with daily clinical work, managing own workload without direct supervision.
  • Provide basic rehabilitative care, diagnostic assessments of hearing and care for adult hearing‑aid users, children over 5 years of age and their carers/relatives.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, carers, relatives, other professionals and service users.
  • Contribute to service development and maintain professional standards.
  • Maintain patient and departmental records, written and electronic.
  • Provide clinical assessments, hearing‑aid programming and provision using complex computer software and specialised hardware.
  • Assist in one or more specialist areas of Audiology Service provision.

Person Specification

Essential Knowledge

  • BSc in Audiology or equivalent (including Dip Audiology with relevant BSc or BAA parts 1 & 2, H’Tec/B’Tec MPPM).
  • Professional knowledge from a 4‑year BSc in Audiology or a 2‑year postgraduate Diploma in Audiology.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with all client groups.
  • Ability to perform a wide range of audiological tests.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Ability to work on own initiative.
  • Apply theoretical knowledge to practical situations requiring fine manual dexterity.

Remuneration & Conditions

Band 5 – £32,073 to £39,043 per annum (Agenda for Change). Permanent, full‑time.
