Mechanical Maintenance Engineer

Permanent full‑time position in Manchester M22 4RQ. Working pattern: 4 on / 4 off shift, nights 6pm‑6am. Average hours per week 40.25. Location: Manchester, Longley Lane Material Recycling Facility. Salary £47,532 with up to 10 % annual bonus.

Responsibilities

• Carrying out planned maintenance, inspections and servicing of processing, recycling and recovery plant and machinery.
• Ensuring plant installations and modifications meet current standards and regulatory requirements.
• Assessing and diagnosing mechanical faults, and advising supervisors on corrective actions.
• Completing repairs using safe systems of work and following all Health & Safety policies.
• Supporting continuous improvement by helping identify maintenance and reliability enhancements.

Requirements

• Must have an NVQ Level 3 or completed an Engineering Apprenticeship.
• Mechanical Engineering background preferably in manufacturing, production engineering, waste management or a similar maintenance environment.
• Hands‑on knowledge of equipment such as conveyors, motors, gearboxes, hydraulics and pneumatics; basic electrical fault‑finding is beneficial.
• City & Guilds / NVQ Level 3 Mechanical Maintenance or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent apprenticeship.
• Good understanding of Health & Safety regulations; IOSH is desirable.
