Job Description:

Piping Engineer

Sector: Nuclear New Build / Piping Infrastructure & Mechanical Engineering

Location: Bristol, England (Office-Based with Site Interface)

Position Type: Full-Time, Permanent

The Opportunity

We are partnering with a premier Tier 1 technical services and engineering consultancy to recruit a Piping Engineer focused on construction delivery. Operating within an integrated mechanical, electrical, and HVAC framework for the Hinkley Point C (HPC) project, this role is responsible for generating, reviewing, and delivering discipline‑specific Construction Work Packages.

This position bridges the gap between engineering design and site installation. It is an exceptional opportunity for a detail‑oriented Piping Engineer or experienced site supervisor to take ownership of complex technical documentation, ensuring that field crews have the precise instructions needed to achieve “Right First Time” delivery on a landmark energy infrastructure project.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work Pack Delivery: Take ultimate accountability for compiling and delivering high‑quality Mechanical & Piping Construction Work Packages, ensuring all technical instructions are robust and clear.
  • Information Configuration: Meticulously record and track all engineering modifications, Requests for Information (RFIs), and Field Change Requests (FCRs) within the project’s configuration management data systems.
  • Schedule Contribution: Collaborate with project controls and planning teams to contribute discipline‑specific logic and sequencing to the master construction schedule.
  • Scope Definition: Establish and define precise boundaries for specific mechanical work packages, minimizing interface conflicts between site contractors.
  • Technical Liaison: Liaise routinely with internal Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) and client engineering counterparts to resolve complex technical constraints.
  • Compliance Assurance: Review and verify that all authored engineering documentation complies fully with the latest site works information, construction regulations, and quality standards.
  • Document Control: Manage lifecycle updates for all assigned work packages, ensuring they are kept up‑to‑date and periodically reviewed against ongoing design modifications.

What We’re Looking For

  • Technical Background: Degree qualification in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent vocational training alongside robust practical experience in the installation of heavy industrial piping systems.
  • Industry Experience: A proven track record operating within a highly regulated sector – Nuclear Energy sector experience is strongly preferred, but heavy industrial sectors such as oil & gas, petrochemical, or marine engineering will be considered.
  • Engineering Level: Demonstrated experience operating and delivering at an Engineer or Senior Engineer level on major multi‑million‑pound construction or infrastructure programmes.
  • Software Competency: Advanced proficiency in navigating and reviewing complex 3D plant models using Navisworks, alongside strong Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Vetting & Site Cards: Must be able to achieve standard baseline security clearance (BPSS or higher) and hold a valid CCNSG Safety Passport (or recognised equivalent industrial safety card).

What’s on Offer (Package & Benefits)

  • Salary: Highly competitive base salary aligned with premium industry standards.
  • Healthcare: Comprehensive private medical cover and digital GP service access.
  • Family Benefits: Enhanced parental leave structures and corporate family support programmes.
  • Professional Development: Financial reimbursement and corporate backing towards relevant professional engineering memberships and continued professional development (CPD).
  • Culture: A collaborative, supportive environment with dedicated mental health initiatives, matched‑funding schemes, and paid volunteering time.
