Mechanical QA/QC Engineer
Contract Role / Inside of IR35 / North Ayrshire / Major Industrial Project
We are supporting a major live industrial project in Dalry and are seeking an experienced Mechanical QA/QC Engineer to join a central Quality team on a contract basis.
Working within a complex, fast‑paced construction environment, you’ll be embedded on‑site alongside delivery and construction teams, playing a key role in ensuring quality standards are achieved across all phases of mechanical and piping installation.
This is a highly visible, hands‑on position offering genuine responsibility, stakeholder influence, and the opportunity to make a measurable impact on project delivery outcomes.
The Role
You’ll be at the centre of project execution, ensuring mechanical and piping systems are installed, tested, and commissioned to the highest standards.
- Leading QA/QC activities across fabrication, installation, testing, and pre‑commissioning
- Reviewing and interpreting P&IDs, isometrics, welding procedures, and technical specifications
- Conducting inspections covering piping, welding, hydrotesting, flange management, and pipe supports
- Reviewing Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs), establishing hold/witness points, and ensuring quality processes are implemented effectively on site
- Collaborating closely with construction teams, subcontractors, vendors, and client representatives to drive quality performance
- Managing non‑conformances and ensuring robust corrective actions are implemented
- Maintaining quality documentation and compiling handover dossiers for system completion
- Supporting vendor inspections, SATs, and regulatory compliance activities
About You
We’re looking for someone with strong technical capability, excellent site awareness, and a practical delivery‑focused mindset.
- A background in Mechanical or Process Engineering
- Strong knowledge of piping systems, welding processes, and mechanical equipment installation
- Experience working within QA/QC and construction environments on large‑scale industrial projects
- Good understanding of UK compliance standards and legislation including PSSR, PE(S)R, and CDM Regulations
- Experience managing inspections, quality records, and construction quality documentation
- Professional certifications such as CSWIP, API, CWI, or ISO 9001 Auditor qualifications would be advantageous
