About The Role

This 12‑month fixed‑term role is based in York, with travel to sites. As a Human Resources Business Partner on the East Coast Route, you will work closely with leaders to deliver people‑focused solutions that support around 450 colleagues across a diverse, operational environment. From workforce planning and talent to employee relations and engagement, you will play a key role in shaping the colleague experience and driving business performance.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver the full range of generalist HR activity, including workforce planning, succession planning, talent management, employee engagement, employee relations and implementation of EDI plans.
  • Successfully deliver client‑responsive, cost‑effective and integrated people solutions that address key business objectives, gaining acceptance from key stakeholders.
  • Coach, advise and challenge business leaders on short‑ and medium‑term HR issues such as organisational change and employee relations case management.
  • Travel to depots and operational centres, remaining co‑located for the majority of the time.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Strong partnership and relationship‑building with senior leaders, HR centre‑of‑expertise colleagues, trade union colleagues and client‑area team members.
  • Knowledge and experience of implementing best‑practice HR solutions to drive a high‑performance culture.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills, with the ability to balance many competing priorities.
  • Generalist HR knowledge – CIPD qualified or relevant experience.
  • Resilience and a proven track record of operating in a complex, unionised environment.
