Consultant in Public Health: National Screening Programmes – Screening Oversight & Assurance Scotland (SOAS)
Pay will be dependent on registration/qualifications. NHS Consultant (GMC Registered) pay scale £111,430–£148,064 or Agenda for Change Band 8d (UKPHR registered) pay scale £107,810–£112,426.

About the Organisation
Public Services Delivery Scotland (PSD Scotland) unites expertise from NES and NSS to accelerate national programmes and support the NHS in delivering better care. PSD Scotland provides education and training, tools and data that improve services, and runs vital national functions such as procurement, logistics, and blood, tissue and cell services.
Screening Oversight and Assurance Scotland (SOAS) is hosted within the Clinical Directorate of PSD Scotland, offering professional and clinical leadership across medical, nursing, dental, pharmacy and healthcare science. SOAS plays a central role in quality management, governance, risk management, professional development and service improvement across Scotland.
The Post
We are seeking an experienced Consultant in Public Health with extensive population screening expertise to join SOAS. Working alongside the existing Consultant and under the Scottish Director of Screening, the postholder will provide public health screening expertise to Scotland’s national screening programmes, support the coordination team, national clinical leads and quality assurance leads, and advise the Consultant in Public Health Leads for each of the 14 territorial health boards.
Applicants must hold Membership/Fellowship of the Faculty of Public Health or equivalent, must be registered on the Specialist Register of the General Medical Council in Public Health with a licence to practice or be registered on the UK Public Health (Specialist) Register.
The Candidate
You will be an experienced Consultant in Public Health or Consultant in Public Health Medicine with detailed knowledge and understanding of population screening and significant experience at consultant level within national screening programmes. This post is not suitable for a newly qualified consultant.
Successful candidates must undergo a Disclosure Scotland PVG Scheme check. Candidates who have lived or worked overseas for more than 12 months in the preceding five years must also provide a criminal record check from the appropriate overseas agency. Candidates must have current GMC registration or be registered as a Public Health Specialist on UKPHR at the time of application.
Location and Working Pattern
PSD Scotland is a remote‑friendly employer with staff based throughout Scotland. Office‑based or hybrid working arrangements are supported at our offices in Gyle Square, Edinburgh or Delta House, Glasgow. Working pattern: Monday to Friday – full time (36 hours per week for allocated PA hours).
We are also willing to consider individuals who want to work less than full time and welcome conversations about alternative working patterns. It is a condition of employment that you must live and remain a resident within the UK and have entitlement to work in the UK for the post.
