Overview

Due to the growing number of treatments we are now giving to patients and with the increasing external support we are offering to other healthcare centres, our busy, detailed and professional, Sterile Services department have a new opening for a Sterile Services Technician to join and be part of our fun team in supporting the Sterile Services Manager in ensuring a continuously effective decontamination and sterile supplies service.

Responsibilities

  • In close co‑operation with Theatre and Endoscopy departments, provide an effective service for the needs of surgeons and patients.
  • Accountable for the reprocessing of reusable medical devices, including washing, disinfecting and sterilising theatre equipment.
  • Responsible for the decontamination of flexible Endoscopes for our Endoscopy department.
  • Maintain supplies inventories and stock levels, keeping accurate records in our computer system tracking various theatre items and instruments.
  • Conduct daily validation testing and recording.
  • Monitor all procedures and report malfunctions of sterilisers and washer‑disinfectors to the Sterile Services Manager and record details on forms.
  • Participate in conducting planned audits, ensuring equipment is correctly labelled, available, and documented when leaving the centre.
  • Work within a healthcare/surgical environment as a strong team player with a good working appreciation of decontamination processes.
  • Maintain focus and concentration during the decontamination and packing process.
  • Communicate effectively at all levels, both written and verbal, with good computer literacy.
  • Stand while carrying out duties and exert moderate to high physical effort while unloading and loading trolleys into autoclaves and washer disinfectors.

Qualifications

  • Preferably have Hepatitis B and TB vaccinations; practice plus group will provide training if no evidence of immunisation.
