Job Description:

The Role

Work as part of the Electrical Services team to ensure the safe and effective operation of the shafts and skipping systems as operational requirements dictate.

The Responsibilities

Safety

  • Following all relevant rules and procedures
  • Attending Toolbox talks delivered by Foreman
  • Following risk assessments, COSHH assessments and method statements where required
  • Understanding, following and implementing their part in emergency procedures
  • Ensuring risk assessments and method statements are suitable and used for tasks being undertaken

Planning

  • Ensuring risk assessments and method statements are suitable and used for tasks being undertaken
  • Planning, risk assessing and executing workload as necessary

Decision Making & Problem Solving

  • Make informed decisions associated with hazard identification and risk management to ensure safe working
  • Prioritise tasks after discussion with supervisor to ensure maintenance objectives are achieved
  • Using judgement and experience to manage incidents and problems

Operational Tasks

  • Safely and effectively operate the shafts and skipping systems as operational requirements dictate
  • Liaise with the maintenance department on compliance testing and inspection

Communication

  • Reporting to Foremen on all aspects of their activities
  • Liaising with other ICL Boulby winder personnel and contractors
  • Liaising with supervisors to understand all aspects of the daily maintenance activity

Information Management

  • Interpreting and acting upon information given by way of oral/written communication, technical manuals, method statements and risk assessments and previous work reports
  • Utilising all such information for the effective implementation of the maintenance workload

The Requirements

Experience & Knowledge

  • Experience of the underground operation
  • Experience of shafts and winding engines would be advantageous

Qualifications / Certifications

  • Level 2 Skills for Life or GCSE equivalent (Numeracy, Literacy, ITQ)
  • Risk assessment training
  • Effective communication skills
